Meet Dr Alison Calanca (Chiropractor)
BMSCI. BAPPSCI. (MEDICAL IMAGING), BAPPSCI. (CHIROPRACTIC)
Dr Alison’s path to becoming a chiropractor began early in life – very early, as she has received chiropractic care since she was a newborn. Her personal experiences greatly influenced her career choice. After being involved in a severe car accident in Italy, she shifted her focus from medicine and medical imaging to chiropractic, leading her to relocate to Melbourne to pursue her passion.
“My personal journey highlighted gaps in traditional medical approaches, which often left me feeling disheartened and unsupported in managing my condition at the time.”
Witnessing how chiropractic care addressed issues that conventional methods struggled with, she was determined to offer hope and healing to others who weren’t getting answers to their health challenges.
Education and Professional Development
Dr Alison earned a BMSci, BAppSci in Medical Imaging, and BHSci, BAppSci in Chiropractic from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (R.M.I.T). Graduating in 2019, she continues to expand her knowledge through ongoing professional development, learning about new techniques and research.
She also integrates evidence-based practices into her care and participates in peer review and mentorship programs to refine her skills.
A Holistic Approach to Wellness
Dr Alison takes a holistic wellness approach to chiropractic care, emphasising improved mobility and overall wellbeing. To get a comprehensive view of her patients’ spinal health, she uses diagnostic tools like X-rays. The images enable early detection of potential issues and tailored care plans. She also emphasises to patients the importance of preventative care to promote optimal health.
Dr Alison also integrates Applied Kinesiology techniques having honed her skills in this adjunctive therapy studying under Dr Dave and Dr Eric for over two years. Her comprehensive approach integrates preventative care and education to help patients achieve their particular health goals.
Fostering Connections With Patients
One of the aspects of being a chiropractor that Dr Alison finds rewarding is building relationships with her patients and witnessing the positive changes in their lives.
“The most fulfilling aspect of being a chiropractor is using my knowledge to help people improve their health and wellbeing.”
Beyond the Clinic
When she’s not helping patients, Dr Alison loves trying different cuisines and is a self-described “foodie addict.” She also stays active by walking her dog, swimming, and salsa dancing. To relax, Dr Alison likes to read or work on creative projects. Travelling and discovering new places, and volunteering are other passions of hers.
